Marazion faces the open bay, and salt is the defining fact of tree work here. Wind coming in off the water carries salt spray a long way inland, and it burns the growing tips on the exposed side of anything in its path. The result is the shape you see all along this stretch of coast: trees that are dense and low with a flattened, swept crown leaning away from the sea, often with a permanently dead or bare seaward face.
