Tree work in Penzance

Penzance has a milder microclimate than the rest of the patch, sheltered as it sits around Mount's Bay, and the planting shows it. Alongside the ordinary sycamore, ash and beech you find things that would not survive a winter further inland: palms, cordylines, tree ferns, large evergreen magnolias, and mature specimen trees planted into big Victorian villa gardens when those houses were built. It makes for a genuinely different job list. A cordyline that has thrown up multiple heads and started splitting at the base is not a tree surgery problem in the usual sense, and it is not dealt with like a sycamore.

The villa gardens themselves are the other thing worth knowing about. Around the older parts of town — and a good deal of central Penzance is a conservation area — you get substantial mature trees in gardens that have been subdivided over the years, so a tree originally planted with plenty of room now sits on a boundary between three properties that did not exist when it went in. Those jobs need the council checking before anything starts, and they need the neighbours knowing what is happening. I do both before I quote.
